Beauty Perspectives - Your Unique Brow Architecture with Diana Augustoni

Our eyes are said to be the windows to our soul and how we frame them matters. Today we talk to London-based Brow Artist Diana Augustoni, who is not only responsible for the amazing eyebrows of wellness icon Ella Mills but is dedicated to teach us how to uncover our unique brow architecture and take really good care of our brows. We talk all things eyebrows, lamination and brow care and also dive into Diana’s personal wellness and manifestation rituals.

Our eyes are said to be the windows to our soul and our eyebrows frame them. What do you think is so special about our brows and why did you choose to work with brows specifically?

I really believe that the brows frame our whole face and accentuate all of our facial features. I see so much expression in eyebrows. I originally started out as  an aesthetician who offered both holistic facials and eyebrow treatments. Early in my career I could see how growing our eyebrows and leaving them more natural was very flattering on everyone. I often found I talked more about eyebrows than skin at a certain point and realised it was time to specialise in eyebrows.

You work with your clients to find their unique brow architecture. What is the philosophy behind this approach and how does it work?

I think it’s important to really understand what brows mean to each client I work with, that informs so much of what they hope for their brows. This gives me a chance to watch how their brows move with their expressions and to see how their bone structure frames their brows. Then from there, I begin to show them where I think they get the most out of their natural growth and where we want to highlight.

Lamination has been something that got more and more popular lately. Can you tell us more about the process and the benefits?

Brow lifts/lamination are great but not all products are the same. So first and foremost I always recommend asking what product is used and if it is good for the health of the brow hair. For most brow artists I know, it’s a process to finding the product that you feel will protect the brows. Brow lifts can give the illusion of more brow hair or can help position the hairs to flow better with  the clients brow bone. If you have really curly hair naturally, your brows might also curl a lot, by straightening those hairs you can really allow the brows to show up.

The process includes  the lamination step using a keratin solution, set and then neutralise. I often will then include a tint in this service so we tint afterwards and then apply a balm to nurture the brows afterwards.

What can we do on a regular basis to keep our brows healthy and beautiful?

Brushing our brows is a great way to gently exfoliate the area. I always like to remind that we need to take care of the skin underneath our brows too.  I advise using an oil with a spoolie brush and brush through the brows. There are some great brow masks out there now too which is such a great idea. I wouldn’t use a brow mask or oil on the brows everyday as that could clog hair follicles but doing this once or twice a week is great for brow health. And try not to overdo using brow makeup, too much can irritate the skin around the brows and that could prevent new growth.

Editor’s note: Diana recommends to first apply brow oil (the Mount Sapo Oil is her absolute favourite) and then apply a reusable brow mask like this one from Pacifica.

How do your favourite Beauty or Wellness Rituals look like?

Some weeks are better than others…hahaha! I really like TBM (to be magnetic), it’s a daily practice. I try to incorporate into my everyday but I do miss days for sure. I also really like to get some form of movement in everyday, currently I’m using Melissa Wood Health’s app and it’s perfect for me. I do like masks and baths as well. In general I just try to be mindful, eat well and sleep well.

Editor’s note: To Be Magnetic is a specific manifestation technique designed and taught by Lacy Phillips. You can find out more about TBM here.

Do you have any rituals that are part of your every day?

Yes TBM and movement, those are a must for me.

When do you feel most beautiful?

In Nature for sure, perhaps because I live in a city but in nature, everything is calm and beautiful to me.

Do you think there is a connection between how we look and our purpose in life?

When we are truly honed in to what lights us up and were we feel our purpose, we radiate. The energy around that is truly contagious!

How can we develop a more loving relationship with our face and body?

Thank our bodies and our face everyday! It’s easy to judge ourselves but our face and body are such an incredible gift, reminding ourselves to embrace our own uniqueness and love that we get our face and bodies to show the world.
