Great Women behind Great Brands: Melina Plogstedt, Co-Founder of Radiant Being
When you browse the Radiant Being Instagram account or read through their website, you quickly notice, that Radiant Being is about so much more than clothing. It’s about a way of living.
Today we have the incredible pleasure to sit down and talk to Melina Plogstedt, Co-Founder of Radiant Being. We talk all about self-care rituals, conscious parenting and a new era of leadership. Of course we didn’t forget to ask about her hair care routine too.
As an entrepreneur and mother of two, life can get really busy. What are your favourite ways to ground yourself?
My daily walks in the woods on my own, my morning yoga, Gua Sha, tuning and playing a little set with my crystal bowls just for me.
You are a big fan of Kundalini Yoga. Can you tell us what you think is so special about this branch of yoga and why you chose a Kundalini practice to be the first Radiant Being experience*?
One of my very first spiritual awakenings happened during my first encounter with Kundalini. It was incredibly powerful. Such an important and profound experience in my journey. Kundalini really has the ability to awaken you to your power beyond all limiting beliefs or learnt patterns. In my experience it releases funnels of energy for us to remember ancient wisdom stored within our bodies and auric field. It is a practice that uses so many different techniques that each on their own but especially combined unleash immense creativity and life force.
I just really want to broaden the perception and perspective here so that many more humans may find ways to try out ancient practices like Kundalini.
*Editors note: When you buy one of the beautiful Radiant Being pieces, there is a QR Code hidden inside that takes you to your first Radiant Being experience which is a Kundalini Yoga Practice.
When do you feel most beautiful?
Laying naked in the sun :) …or while I’m dancing.
How does your current skincare - and of course there is no way around asking - your hair-care routine look like?
My skin/body/hair- care routine is very important to me and I treat them as a ritual. In the mornings I do Gua Sha basically on my whole upper body and face. Then I dry brush the rest of my body, rub in some body oil and hop in the cold shower. After this I pat my face dry and follow with a toner, a serum and some hyaluronic acid. Followed up by some eye cream and sunscreen. That's it!
My hair routine also is fairly simple. As I only wash my hair once a week. I usually treat my scalp (love my scalp massage) and lengths with some oil and then let that marinate until I wash my hair in the evening.
Mostly I let my hair air dry but when I have something special coming up I sometimes use my Dyson to dry and blow it out.
Regardless however I always put in some treatment/ leave in conditioner when my hair is towel dry. I let that sink in for a bit and follow up by spraying my homemade rosemary essence* generously all over. Then I brush and braid my hair so I have some heatless waves the next morning :)
*Editors note: She brews that one herself with fresh rosemary and water.
What's your favourite piece in the Radiant Being Store at the moment?

What are your thoughts on Spirituality, Parenting and modern work & family life? How would you say you work & parent differently because of how you see the world.
Many Many thoughts on this topic….I most definitely can say that I am a much more conscious and tolerant parent to my kids because of what states of awareness my own journey and practice has brought me. I don't think I would be able to parent them this way if I hadn't embarked on this journey. Also I am in so much awe every single day of what miraculous humans they are and encourage them to trust and follow their instincts and intuition.
Of course they very often witness me and my husband in our practice, so they naturally grow up around this energy.
My work ethic has also evolved with me on my path and I am no longer standing with hustling and overriding my energy flows or intuition. I am a Manifestor* so this was and still is a huge learning for me. But it feels good and most definitely is the more sustainable way of living my life in flow.
*Editors note: Melina is referring to the Human Design Energy Types. More on that topic will be published in the &Spirit Magazine soon.
"This is a new age" is the headline of the Radiant Being About page. What are your thoughts on leadership and the role a brand like Radiant Being can play in changing where the world is going?
I believe that the whole concept of the term leadership has reached its tipping point and is slowly but surely evolving towards more flattened hierarchies. I think that the real evolution here is to allow each other to bring our individual gifts and wisdom to the table. There will never be one shoe ( or 10 or 1000 ) that fits all solution. However, I think that most of us have come to the realisation that each and every one of us has something amazing and unique to offer. So focusing on magnifying and strengthening our flex to be authentic and expand our horizons towards these endless opportunities. I believe for natural and healthy leaders to be born out of more tolerant, supportive and expansive ways of living.
What are your top tips to boost our - Inner & Outer - Radiance?

*Editors note: Prana means life force in the yogic tradition and can be influenced through your whole lifestyle and especially by practicing certain breathing exercises.
